My cruise ended in Rome, so I signed up for an all-day bus trip that stopped at the Colisseum among other places. Despite the blazingly hot and humid weather, I'm very glad I took this tour. We also drove through Rome and saw some sights, including this building above, which I forget what it is called, but was essentially a test run of the architecture used on the Colisseum.
Some fun facts from our tour guide: the Colisseum is over 150 feet tall. It held 50,000 people and was designed with everyone having a specific gate (80 in all) that they entered and exited through. That way, in case of an emergency, all 50,000 people could evacuate in about five minutes. That is some pretty impressive engineering.
